Passion, appeal, Impact
This week I worked mainly in 2D to create the next three buzzwords in my showreel.
Firstly I wanted to have a hand-drawn element in my showreel. For this, I chose the keyword passion and decided to animate a flame:
I began with some construction shapes that wobble from left to right in a sine wave shape while also continually moving up along that curve:
Using these I was able to ink In an outline for the volume of the flame and fill that in with orange
Using this as a base in aftereffects I added some glow and a gradient to give this as the final result:
Over the top of this i added my passion text, and using a noise curve effect I added some wobble to the outlines of the text
for the font I used pain de Mie, another adobe font. This font is very friendly and has a bubble-esque quality to it.
Next Up was "appeal" this is where I showcased a lot of the built in tools in after effects such as trim paths etc.
To begin with I animated this cube using the puppet animator toolset to deform the cube. I made particular use of squash and stretch and anticipation to try and give the cube as much character as possible to help aid the appeal of the comp.
After this I used trim paths to create some speed lines behind the cube as it scrolls across the screen
Finally I added the appeal text Underneath using another rounded sans serif font called gigalypse. I would later come to add some more animation to this element when I cut the piece to music as it felt too static.
I then used the motion of the cube to reveal the text underneath using a simple mask that was parented to the cube
Finally, for this week I moved on to the prompt "impact".
I already had a pretty firm Idea of what I wanted for this prompt- a large ball coming down from off-frame and cracking the impact text in half.
I first took the text into Illustrator and used the shape builder tool and a vector graphic of cracks to split up the letters into separate pieces:
This then meant I could animate each piece individually to get the right effect. then to create the cracks I would just switch out the complete impact text for the cracked version right as the ball hit it. giving us this as the final effect.
